This is the third year of Horizon. During this time we have delivered two successful showcases at the Edinburgh festivals: online in 2021, in-person in 2022, and we’re about to kick off our 2023 showcase, which promises to be our most vibrant, boundary-defying and internationally-connected programme yet.
Over the three years, Horizon has supported more than 250 artists and creatives, through showcasing, residencies, bursaries, and commissions. It has connected over 80 international presenters with some of the most exciting artists working in England, catalysing new relationships, and supporting artists to work internationally. So far, this has resulted in 16 pencilled and confirmed international tour dates, two residencies and one commission, with more in the pipeline.
As we look to the future, our intention is to move to a biennial model, with showcases at the Edinburgh festivals in 2025 and 2027, alternating with catalyst years in 2024 and 2026. After this year’s showcase, the Horizon consortium will pause for evaluation and reflection on our achievements and learnings so far. This space allows us to continue our discussions with Arts Council England about the next bold and dynamic iteration of Horizon.
Our aim is to provide an update early in the new year about our plans for 2024 and beyond.
